Turkey Reacts Harshly to Israeli Defense Ministers Remarks
Turkey showed an official and harsh reaction to the remarks by the Israeli Defense Minister that targeted Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey, and the country. Burhanettin Duran, Head of Communications of the Turkish Presidency, and Ömer Çelik, spokesperson for the Justice and Development Party, condemned the remarks in separate messages.
Burhanettin Duran said: “The insolent remarks by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, which targeted our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and our country, are a clear sign of the political desperation they face ahead of the upcoming elections in Israel.” He added: Baseless accusations against Turkey cannot cover up the Israeli government’s history of genocide in Gaza and its aggressive policies in our region. According to Duran, Katz’s explicit threat of death against those involved in ceasefire and peace negotiations is a new manifestation of the Israeli government’s disregard for international law and global public opinion.
Ömer Çelik also strongly criticized the Israeli Defense Minister, saying: “Katz’s shameless and insolent remarks targeting our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and our country are a clear sign of the deep political desperation and exhaustion in which the Israeli government is trapped.” He wrote on social media that the Israeli government thinks it can cover up its domestic political problems and pre-election collapse by attacking Turkey and its president. Çelik stressed that baseless accusations and defamation campaigns against Turkey will not be enough to hide the history of genocide in Gaza and Israel’s expansionist and aggressive policies in the region. He described Katz’s explicit threats of death against actors involved in peace and ceasefire negotiations as a new manifestation of Israel’s bullying approach that ignores international law, human rights, and the global conscience.
In conclusion, Turkish officials stressed that Turkey, under the leadership of President Erdoğan, will not bow to any threat, provocation, or blackmail, and will continue to firmly defend the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and their historical cause for justice and lasting peace in the region, and will be the resounding voice of truth against injustice.
