Turkey sees Syria’s stability as the key to its own security
Admiral Zeki Aktürk, Press and Public Relations Advisor of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, emphasized during the ministry’s weekly press briefing: “The stability of Syria is directly linked to Turkey’s security, and every step taken in this direction contributes to the peace and tranquility of the region.”
He added: “Ankara will support any measures taken by the Syrian government to preserve the unity and integrity of the country.”
Aktürk also referred to Turkey’s fight against terrorism inside and outside its borders, stating: “Over the past week, 395 people — including 5 members of terrorist groups — were apprehended while attempting to cross the country’s borders illegally, and 976 others were stopped before crossing.”
According to him, since the beginning of this year, the number of people arrested while attempting illegal border crossings has reached 5,508, while the number of those stopped before crossing has risen to 47,857.
Aktürk further announced: “During search and clearance operations in the border areas of Van and Iğdır over the past week, a total of 166 kilograms of narcotics were seized.”
