Turkey Sends 1,300 Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan via “Charity Train”
According to the Public Relations Department of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Turkey (AFAD), the shipment was delivered to Afghanistan through the land border. It includes 28,000 food packages, 560 tons of essential food supplies, 550 tons of flour, and 14,000 blankets, designated for people in the earthquake‑affected areas.
The send‑off ceremony was held in Ankara with the participation of Ali Hamza Pehlivan, President of AFAD, senior officials from Turkish State Railways, and representatives of non‑governmental organizations. At the ceremony, Pehlivan emphasized:
“These aids reflect the deep bonds of brotherhood between the two nations, and Turkey will continue to stand by the people of Afghanistan.”
With this delivery, the total amount of aid sent by Turkey to Afghanistan via railways over the past three years has reached 11,768 tons.
The Embassy of Turkey in Kabul also issued a statement noting that the shipment was dispatched to provide urgent assistance to Afghanistan’s affected communities, particularly families who lost their homes in recent earthquakes and are facing severe cold, food shortages, and limited access to basic services.
This marks Turkey’s second major aid shipment to Afghanistan in recent months; earlier, Ankara had sent 922 tons of humanitarian aid to residents of Kunar Province.
Afghanistan continues to grapple with a profound humanitarian crisis, exacerbated by natural disasters, economic collapse, and a sharp decline in international assistance. Millions of people in the country are struggling with food insecurity, displacement, and shortages of basic necessities, while foreign aid remains a vital lifeline for survival.
