Turkish Foreign Minister Calls March 10 Agreement Vital
Hakan Fidan, speaking about the disarmament process of the Syrian branch of the PKK/YPG known as “N.D.S” in Syria, stated:
“All Syrian armed groups, except this one, have joined the structure of the Syrian Ministry of Defense. The existence of independent armed forces is incompatible with the principle of sovereignty and national unity.”
He added:
“Our hope is to resolve issues through dialogue and peaceful methods, but N.D.S must understand that the full and uncompromising implementation of the March 10 Agreement is the common demand of all actors.”
Fidan continued:
“Turkey does not want to resort once again to military options, but N.D.S must realize that the patience of the relevant parties is running out and it must fulfill its commitments under the March 10 Agreement without delay.”
Referring also to the fight against ISIS in Syria, he said:
“Turkey and regional countries, if there is an effective cooperation mechanism, will be able to completely contain this threat. No terrorist element should be allowed to derail Syria’s recovery process.”
In another part of his remarks, the Turkish Foreign Minister pointed to the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, describing this agreement as “highly valuable” for Ankara, and emphasized:
“The world has witnessed a humanitarian disaster and genocide in Gaza over the past two years.”
Criticizing repeated violations of the ceasefire, he declared:
“Since the agreement, nearly 400 Palestinians have lost their lives, while the Palestinian side has remained committed to the ceasefire.”
Fidan warned that if the ceasefire process fails, the crisis will not be limited to Gaza alone, adding:
“If we are not careful, the same scenario may be repeated in the West Bank.”
Highlighting Turkey’s active role in defending human conscience and international law, he said:
“Israel strongly opposes Turkey’s presence in the International Stabilization Force, but Tel Aviv is not the only actor in this equation, and Ankara continues its consultations with other parties.”
