Turkish Foreign Minister’s Assessment of the International Meeting

Turkish Foreign Minister’s Assessment of the International Meeting

Turkish Foreign Minister’s Assessment of the International Meeting

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, emphasizing the importance of national security and regional stability, stated:
“Ankara is ready, within the framework of political, economic, institutional, and security cooperation, to take any steps necessary for Syria and the region.”

He added: “Our goal is to create conditions in which Turkey’s national security is not threatened and no group — whether majority or minority, including our Kurdish brothers and sisters — feels unsafe. Everyone must be able to preserve their identity and live in an equal and secure environment. Turkey will pursue these measures not unilaterally, but in cooperation with regional and international partners.”

Fidan also underlined that Turkey’s foreign policy is in full coordination with the Presidency, noting that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has stressed this issue in all his meetings with world leaders, and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to implement this vision.

Turkey–U.S. Relations; Removing Obstacles and Expanding Cooperation

The Turkish Foreign Minister described the recent meeting between the Presidents of Turkey and the United States as “very positive and constructive,” saying:
“Both sides have a serious will to resolve bilateral issues. Our President has a strong ability to persuade, and he uses this capacity for the benefit of the country.”

Referring to the U.S. sanctions law known as CAATSA, he called it “a serious obstacle in the relations between two NATO allies,” and added: “Legal restrictions between the two countries are not compatible with the spirit of alliance and strategic partnership. Both sides are determined to resolve this problem.”

Fidan also pointed to joint agreements in the field of energy, particularly natural gas and nuclear energy.

Erdoğan–Trump Meeting; Tangible Results and Mutual Trust

The Turkish Foreign Minister assessed the meeting between Erdoğan and Trump as “extremely good and with tangible results,” and said:
“Regular communication and coordination between the two leaders is vital for strengthening trust and expanding cooperation. International relations require such periodic meetings between major leaders.”

According to him, cooperation between the two countries will continue in the fields of trade, technology, education, defense, and foreign policy, and its expansion will benefit both sides.

The Palestine Issue; Turkey’s Main Priority at the United Nations

Hakan Fidan stressed that the issue of Palestine and the situation in Gaza was “the most important agenda item of the UN General Assembly.” He said: “Turkey has either led, coordinated, or supported all sessions related to Palestine, and has defended the Palestinian cause in the strongest possible way.”

He added that President Erdoğan devoted a large part of his speech to the Palestinian issue, and in the special Gaza session attended by leaders of Islamic countries and the President of the United States, he emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and opposition to the annexation of the West Bank.

Fidan also highlighted the importance of Western countries recognizing the State of Palestine, calling it “a very significant development” that was the result of joint efforts by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League.
