The unemployment rate in Turkey has dropped below 8 percent
In 2024, Turkey’s unemployment rate reached 8.7 percent, marking the lowest level in 12 years.
According to the latest statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), Turkey’s unemployment rate in 2024 decreased by 0.7 percent to 8.7 percent, marking the lowest level in 12 years and indicating a steady improvement in the labor market.
The number of unemployed individuals aged 15 and above decreased by 151,000 compared to the previous year, bringing their total to 3.113 million.
Unemployment among men decreased from 7.7 percent in 2023 to 7.1 percent in 2024, while the unemployment rate for women declined from 12.6 percent to 11.8 percent.
Meanwhile, labor force participation decreased by 0.9 percent to 54.2 percent, and the employment rate increased to 49.5 percent, compared to 48.3 percent the previous year, reflecting a labor force of 32.62 million individuals.
Youth unemployment (ages 15 to 24) also improved, decreasing by 1.1 percent to reach 16.3 percent. The rate for young men was 13.1 percent and for young women 22.3 percent, down from 14.3 percent and 23.2 percent recorded in 2023.
