Wildfires Continue in Turkey’s Izmir
In Turkey’s Izmir province, the wildfires that started yesterday in the Çeşme and Ödemiş districts are still active, and emergency teams are working to bring them under control.
In Çeşme, the fire initially broke out in agricultural areas and quickly spread to nearby forests. Local authorities evacuated residents from three neighboring villages to prevent casualties. Firefighters are conducting operations with two planes and six helicopters.
Meanwhile, in the Ödemiş district, the fire that started near the village of Tosunlar also reached residential areas. Firefighting efforts continue with 35 fire trucks, nine water tankers, and four bulldozers. Aerial support is being provided by two planes and nine helicopters.
The cause of the fires is still under investigation. In recent years, Turkey has faced an increase in forest fires, which experts link to climate change.
Local officials have stated that the situation is under control, but due to weather conditions, there is still a risk of the fire spreading.
