Anadolu’s Call for Support of Journalists at Risk of Starvation in Gaza
The Turkish news agency “Anadolu” issued a statement highlighting the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and expressing deep concern over the condition of journalists in the region, who continue to fulfill their duties despite suffering from hunger. Anadolu called on the international community to respond to Israel’s actions.
According to the statement: “The Israeli government’s attacks on Gaza, which began in October 2023, have deliberately turned into a systematic genocide. The people of Gaza have been subjected to inhumane treatment. Hospitals, places of worship, schools, refugee camps, bakeries, water sources, and civilian settlements have been bombed, resulting in the deaths of thousands, including women, children, and the elderly.”
Anadolu emphasized that “the war crimes committed by the Israeli government are increasing in scale, severity, and scope daily. Entry of food and medicine into Gaza is being prevented. Aid convoys are being attacked, access to basic food is restricted, and the people of Gaza are being deliberately and knowingly condemned to extreme hunger.”
The statement further declared: “Despite these circumstances, our colleagues who are trying to show the suffering of civilians struggling to survive under extreme conditions continue their duties despite hunger. Journalists, deprived of all facilities, are trapped in the region, simultaneously fighting for survival while carrying out their professional responsibilities.”
Anadolu concluded: “The people of Gaza, including our 113 colleagues currently performing their duties there, are trying to survive in an area where Israel directly targets their fundamental right to life. We are concerned about the direct impact of conditions such as starvation, lack of food, and water on our staff. We call on the international community, human rights organizations, press institutions, and all conscientious individuals to raise their voices against this darkness.”
