Corruption Scandal in Manavgat Municipality: 110,000 Euro Bribe Hidden in a Baklava Box
During the investigation, images were released showing one of the deputy mayors receiving 110,000 euros in a baklava box.
Turkish police launched a covert investigation after receiving reports of bribery requests for construction permits. In one of the recorded scenes, an individual named C.C., under police coordination, went to the office of Deputy Mayor M.A.T. and handed him a bag containing the money. Their conversation confirmed the 110,000 euro bribe.
When police raided the office, M.A.T. claimed he thought the baklava box was a gift and was unaware of its contents. However, upon inspection, euro banknotes were found inside.
Özgür Özel, leader of the opposition party (CHP), referencing the footage, stated:
“If these scenes are real, may God curse them a thousand times! Someone who betrays not only their own and their family’s honor but also the future of the party in such circumstances is unforgivable.”
He emphasized that if the allegations are proven, the party will not support the accused.
In this case, seven people, including the mayor and his deputies, were detained on charges of bribery, embezzlement, and document forgery. It was also alleged that the corruption network in Manavgat Municipality illegally transferred around 800 million liras through shell companies.
