Of these, 225 were detained in Turkey, and 9 were apprehended abroad. Conducted in coordination with Interpol and Europol, these operations also resulted in the seizure of 21.2 tons of narcotics and assets worth approximately 13 billion Turkish liras.
Reactions and Concerns
While the Turkish government presents these operations as proof of its commitment to combating organized crime, some observers argue that the high number of criminal groups points to structural deficiencies in the judicial and security systems. Additionally, concerns have been raised about these groups’ infiltration into state institutions and political structures.
Conclusion
The dismantling of 660 organized crime groups in Turkey over the past year reflects the government’s extensive efforts to counter domestic and international security threats. However, achieving lasting results will require structural reforms in the judicial and security systems, as well as increased transparency in government institutions.
