Erdoğan to Discuss Ukraine Peace Plan with Trump
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced on Saturday that he intends to hold talks with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a plan to end the crisis in Ukraine.
In his remarks, Erdoğan stated: “Peace is near, we can see it.”
He also underlined the importance of ensuring the security of maritime navigation in the Black Sea, warning that the region should not be exploited for settling scores, as such a situation would benefit neither Russia nor Ukraine.
In this context, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier reported that following an attack on the port of Chornomorsk in Ukraine, a foreign-flagged vessel owned by a Turkish company was damaged.
The ministry’s statement noted that the attack confirmed Ankara’s previous concerns about the possibility of the ongoing war spreading to the Black Sea and its impact on maritime security and freedom of navigation.
