Turkey: Tuition Installment Payment for Iranian Students
In response to the problems arising from widespread internet disruptions in Iran, Turkey’s Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has asked universities in the country to facilitate tuition payment conditions for Iranian students.
Following prolonged outages and serious disruptions to Iran’s communication infrastructure, many Iranian students studying in Turkey have faced challenges in communicating with their families and transferring funds from abroad. This situation has led to delays in their timely payment of university tuition.
In a circular signed by Prof. Dr. Naci Gündoğan, Acting President of YÖK, and communicated to all universities, reference was made to Article 46 of Law No. 2547. According to this article, student tuition and contribution fees must be paid at the beginning of each semester, and failure to pay on time can result in the student being deprived of registration and student rights.
However, YÖK, emphasizing that the delay in payment is due to emergency circumstances beyond the control of Iranian students and related to widespread technical problems in their country, requested universities to act with flexibility on this matter.
Accordingly, the Council of Higher Education has requested universities to provide necessary facilities for Iranian students, including considering a reasonable payment period, such as the possibility of installing tuition fees throughout the spring semester.
This action has been taken to support Iranian students and prevent the negative impact of communication problems on their educational process.
