Media Controversy Over Support for Peace Between Muhsun Kırmızıgül and Zafer Şahin
Following the publication of an article titled “Don’t Artists Want a Turkey Without Terror?” by prominent Turkish journalist Zafer Şahin, the harsh reaction from famous singer and director Muhsun Kırmızıgül has ignited heated debates in Turkish media and social media.
In response to the article, Muhsun Kırmızıgül accused the author of distorting facts and targeting artists, claiming that the published piece was a form of “listing” to attack artistic figures. He alleged that affiliated media outlets knowingly played a role in this process and unjustly portrayed artists as opponents of peace.
However, Zafer Şahin responded to these claims, writing: “What I wrote was not a list but a critical note with a sincere call to support peace.” He added, “Muhsun Kırmızıgül, with his unmatched skill in distortion and insinuation, has portrayed the article as an accusation list.”

Şahin also referenced Muhsun’s recent political stance, stating: “He links not supporting the peace process to corruption, saying, ‘The biggest terrorist is a corrupt politician.’ But if he’s telling the truth, why has he remained silent in the face of real corruption cases?”
Şahin further criticized Muhsun’s artistic and political past, saying: “In the 1990s, while he was increasing his wealth and fame, the Turkish people were struggling with terror, corruption, and human rights violations. Where was he back then?”
Additionally, Şahin touched upon controversies surrounding political crackdowns against certain artists, such as Ahmet Kaya, and called on Kırmızıgül to honestly account for his past.
Ultimately, this media clash has once again brought to light the tense relationship between artists and politics in Turkey, raising fundamental questions about the role of cultural figures in the country’s social and political processes.
