MHP Leader Calls for New Constitution After Eid al-Adha
Devlet Bahçeli, leader of Turkey’s Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), announced during Eid al-Adha celebrations that the process of drafting a new constitution should begin after the holiday. He emphasized that the Turkish Grand National Assembly must take on this responsibility to prepare the country for the future.
After performing the Eid prayer in Ankara, Bahçeli visited the mausoleum of Alparslan Türkeş, the late founder of the MHP, in Beştepe. During the ceremony, which included Quran recitations, he laid a wreath at Türkeş’s grave.
In a statement to reporters, Bahçeli extended his Eid greetings to the public and noted that this year’s atmosphere was more hopeful due to progress in the fight against terrorism. He referenced the PKK’s recent decision to disband and surrender its weapons, calling it a crucial step toward ending terrorism.
Bahçeli stressed Turkey’s need for stability, peace, and unity, urging all political parties to avoid creating social tensions. Addressing the Republican People’s Party (CHP), he said, “Instead of encouraging street clashes, you should follow the principles of Atatürk.”

The MHP leader outlined four reform priorities for Turkey:
Drafting a new constitution based on the national will,
Revising the political parties law,
Reforming the electoral system,
Updating parliament’s internal regulations to improve efficiency.
In closing, Bahçeli called on all parties to consider themselves “Turkey’s national parties” and prioritize the country’s interests over political disputes. He concluded his schedule by visiting the “Ülkü Ocakları” educational foundation and meeting with supporters.
