Opening of the 17th ECO Summit in Azerbaijan
The 17th Summit of the Heads of State of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) took place on Thursday in Khankendi (Stepanakert), the Republic of Azerbaijan. Hosted by Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, the summit commenced with the attendance of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Türkiye, and other leaders and senior officials from member states. The primary objective of this summit was to explore ways to expand economic and trade cooperation among members.
The summit was held under the slogan “New ECO Vision: Towards a Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Future”. Leaders from the 10 member countries—Iran, Türkiye, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Kazakhstan—were in attendance. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus also participated in the event as an observer.
Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, emphasized enhancing regional cooperation in his speech, describing this summit as a significant step toward developing economic relations. He also highlighted the necessity of addressing common challenges, including climate change.
