Palestine: Israeli Settlement Construction is a Genocidal War
The Palestine Liberation Organization announced that the Israeli government’s decision to establish 19 new Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank amounts to a “genocidal war” against Palestinian land, calling for immediate action by the international community to halt this process.
Muayyid Shaaban, head of the Palestinian Commission for Resistance to the Separation Wall and Settlements, emphasized in a statement that the Israeli cabinet’s approval of these settlements is a step toward erasing the geography of Palestine and part of the systematic policy of the far-right government led by Benjamin Netanyahu and Bezalel Smotrich.
He added that this move constitutes a blatant violation of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions, pushing the West Bank toward organized colonization—a process aimed at eliminating Palestinian presence and turning their towns and villages into isolated and besieged areas.
The British government also condemned Israel’s plan to build new settlements in the West Bank. Hamish Falconer, the UK Minister of State for the Middle East, declared in a post on the social media platform X that these settlements are illegal under international law and that such actions jeopardize hopes of achieving lasting peace and a two-state solution.
The plan for new settlements was presented by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, and was approved by Israel’s Security Cabinet.
