Support of Arab and Islamic Countries for the Gaza Draft
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, and Turkey announced in a joint statement that they support the revised U.S. draft in the United Nations Security Council regarding Gaza.
At the end of their statement, these Arab and Islamic countries expressed hope that the proposed resolution would be adopted as soon as possible.
On Wednesday evening, the U.S. Mission to the United Nations presented to the permanent members of the Security Council its draft resolution concerning the establishment of a peace mission and the creation of an international force for stability in Gaza.
The draft calls for the resumption of humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza in coordination with the United Nations and proposes the establishment of an international force under unified command to achieve peace in the Gaza Strip.
According to the provisions of this resolution, the international force will cooperate with Egypt and the Zionist regime on disarmament and the protection of civilians. It also authorizes the Peace Council to establish temporary executive committees to administer civil affairs in Gaza. In addition, the World Bank and food-supporting entities are invited to create a fund for Gaza’s reconstruction.
The resolution emphasizes the gradual withdrawal of the occupying regime from Gaza based on disarmament standards and considers the presence of security forces around the Gaza Strip necessary until all threats are eliminated.
It further allows the continuation of the Peace Council’s activities in Gaza until the end of 2027, subject to subsequent decisions of the Security Council, and calls on governments and organizations to assist in selecting members of the Gaza Peace Council and financing it.
In the final section of the draft, it is stressed that the Gaza Peace Council must operate in accordance with the principles of international law, while also setting clearer conditions for the withdrawal of Zionist forces from the Gaza Strip.
