Three day visit of the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan
Numan Kurtulmus, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, began his official visit to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan from December 1 to 3. According to the Turkish Parliament Presidency, the visit was made at the invitation of Rustam Imamali, Speaker of the National Assembly of Tajikistan; the announced program includes an official meeting at the Tajikistan National Assembly and participation in a ceremony held in honor of the Turkish Parliament Speaker. A meeting with Fizuli Eydivzade, Speaker of the Tajikistan House of Representatives, is also on the agenda.
On the first day of the visit in Dushanbe, Kurtulmus laid a wreath at the foot of the Ismoil Somoni statue to pay his respects and emphasized the historical and cultural ties between Turkey and Tajikistan. At the ceremony site he was received by Davlatali Said, Chair of the National Assembly’s Commission on Economy and Communications; Sadik Emami, Tajikistan’s ambassador to Ankara; and Bakhtiyar Sherifi, Deputy Mayor of Dushanbe. After the ceremony, the Turkish parliamentary delegation proceeded to the Tajikistan Presidential Palace to continue official programs.

The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament met with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon at the Dushanbe Presidential Palace. Kurtulmus described the meeting as “historic” and stated that this is the first official visit to Tajikistan by a Speaker from Turkey. In the joint session, attended by members of parliamentary friendship groups and Turkish diplomats, bilateral, regional and global issues were discussed, and the continuation of contacts and the expansion of bilateral cooperation were emphasized.
Following these events, Kurtulmus will travel to Uzbekistan. According to official announcements, he will deliver a speech at the graduation ceremony of students of the Ibn Sina Faculty of Bukhara Medical Sciences University and the Bukhara University Vocational and Technical School of Health Services, and will meet with Nuriddin Ismailov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan.
