Turkey’s Highlands Covered by Autumn Snow
Autumn snowfall in Turkey affected the highlands and winter tourism centers of several provinces, covering slopes and ski resorts with snow.
In Kayseri Province, Mount Erciyes and the Tekir, Hacılar Kapı, and Develi Kapı areas at an altitude of 2,200 meters were blanketed with snow. According to officials, the temperature in the region dropped to minus 12 degrees Celsius, while blizzards and fog were reported in parts of the mountain. In Yozgat Province’s Akdağmadeni district, snowfall began at the Nalbant Pass at around 2,000 meters, leaving the highlands white.
In Bolu Province, rainfall at the Kartalkaya Ski Resort, located at 2,200 meters in the Köroğlu Mountains, turned into snow as temperatures fell, covering the pistes. At the Arkut Mountain Ski Resort in the Gerede area, snowfall brought the snow depth to about five centimeters.
In Sivas Province, the first snow of the season fell at the Yıldız Mountain Winter Sports and Tourism Center. The facility, equipped with cable cars, ski lifts, pistes of various lengths, a sledding track, and accommodation and service facilities, was covered in snow. Snowfall was also reported in the high-altitude villages of Yıldızeli district.
At the same time, in northeastern Turkey, the first autumn snow was recorded in the highlands of Rize and at Huser Plateau in the Kaçkar Mountains National Park. In Bayburt and the plateaus of the Soğanlı Mountains, snowfall also left villages and highlands white.
This snowfall was reported as meteorological data in Turkey indicated unusually low precipitation levels for the 2025 water year.
