Turkish and Syrian Foreign Ministers Stress Confronting Separatism
The Turkish Foreign Minister, in a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart in Ankara, emphasized that the “S.D.G.,” which he said pursues separatist goals under the guise of fighting ISIS, must abandon this approach.
Hakan Fidan, speaking alongside Esad Hasan al-Shaybani, the Syrian Foreign Minister, stated: “The S.D.G., which operates under the pretext of combating ISIS, in reality advances a separatist agenda, and now the time has come to set aside this equation.”
He added: “It is essential that no terrorist group in Syria poses a threat to the countries of our region, and especially to us.”
For his part, the Syrian Foreign Minister stressed: “Dialogue with the S.D.G. is only possible on the basis of the principle of one country, one army, and one land.”
Al-Shaybani also pointed to external threats, saying: “Israel continues to endanger our security and, by violating our sovereignty, targets new areas of our territory.”
