Turkish Foreign Minister Meets Putin in the Kremlin; Ukraine Crisis at the Center of Talks
This meeting, considered one of the most significant political and security developments in the region, aimed to exchange views on key regional issues, including the war in Ukraine, developments in Syria, and bilateral relations.
According to news agencies, the meeting between Fidan and Putin lasted approximately one hour. While the exact details of the discussions were not disclosed, informed sources stated that the Russia-Ukraine war and the current situation in Syria were the main topics of the meeting. The possibility of Türkiye playing a mediating role in these matters was also explored.
Prior to this meeting, as part of his visit to Russia, Hakan Fidan met with Vladimir Medinsky, the head of the Russian delegation in the Istanbul negotiations, to discuss the progress of peace talks regarding the Ukraine crisis. Additionally, Fidan held talks with Sergey Naryshkin, the head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, for further consultations on the matter.

These meetings took place amid ongoing tensions in Ukraine, with diplomatic efforts to find a solution gaining increasing attention. Given Türkiye’s close ties with both sides, it could play a significant role in mediation efforts.
