Attack on Pakistan Border Forces near Afghanistan; Six Soldiers Killed
Reuters, citing three security sources, reported that six Pakistani soldiers were killed in a militant attack on a border post in the country’s northwest.
The assault took place late Monday night and early Tuesday in the tribal region of Kurram, located near the Afghanistan border.
Border clashes resumed after the recent peace talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan in Riyadh failed. The Riyadh negotiations were part of a series of meetings mediated by Qatar, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, following border violence in October.
The October clashes left dozens dead and were described as the worst border violence since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 2021. Pakistan demands that the Afghan Taliban curb the activities of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and other militant groups, but Kabul denies any ties to these groups and accuses Islamabad of interfering in its internal affairs.
