Bayraktar: Türkiye ranks fifth in Europe in renewable energy
The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye emphasized the importance of expanding renewable energy capacity, stating that the country has achieved a prominent position both regionally and globally in this field.
Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Uzbekistan’s new energy projects in Tashkent, highlighted the necessity of developing clean energy sources and said: “Uzbekistan’s new projects will play a key role in strengthening the country’s energy security and supporting its economic growth.”
Expressing his satisfaction at attending the event, which was held with the participation of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev along with senior officials and economic representatives from various countries, Bayraktar added: “President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has set a clear target: Türkiye must transform into a carbon‑neutral economy by the middle of the century.”
Bayraktar referred to the structural reforms carried out in Türkiye’s energy market over the past two decades, saying: “We moved from a state monopoly model to a competitive market structure. The government also stepped back from its role as the main investor, focusing instead on policy‑making, supervision, and regulation.”
He continued: “Our primary goal is to ensure energy supply security and reduce dependence on external sources. As a result of the reforms, the share of renewable energy has risen to 61 percent, while domestic resources account for 70 percent of the country’s installed capacity. Today, Türkiye ranks fifth in Europe and eleventh in the world in terms of renewable energy capacity.”
