Civilian Casualties in Pakistan’s Airstrike on Afghanistan Last Night
The Pakistani army, through airstrikes on Afghan territory, has killed at least 10 civilians. These attacks took place only a day after a suicide bombing at the headquarters of Pakistan’s security forces in Peshawar, an incident that once again heightened tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban government, stated that Pakistani fighter jets targeted the house of a civilian in Khost province early this morning. According to him, 9 children and one woman were killed in the strike. Mujahid also reported that four other civilians were injured in separate attacks on the border regions of Kunar and Paktika.
The Pakistani government and military have so far made no comment regarding these strikes. These developments come shortly after Monday’s suicide attack on the headquarters of the Federal Constabulary in Peshawar, which left three officers dead and 11 others wounded. Pakistan’s state media reported that the perpetrators of the attack were Afghan nationals, while the country’s president held the group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) responsible for the operation.
Relations between Kabul and Islamabad have severely deteriorated in recent months, particularly following intensified border clashes and disputes over the ties between the Afghan Taliban and Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan. Negotiations between the two sides have so far yielded no tangible results.
