Disclosure of Secret Agreement Between Turkey and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq
Mohammed al-Dhari, a member of the Anbar Coalition in Iraq, announced that the Kurdistan Regional Government had signed a secret agreement with Turkey without informing the central government in Baghdad.
According to him, under this agreement the Turkish army will be allowed to establish new bases inside Iraqi territory. It was also stipulated that the forces of the Kurdistan Region should not confront Turkish troops during their incursions into northern Iraq and should support them in case of any problems.
Al-Dhari added: Within the framework of this agreement, Turkey has placed economic support for the Kurdistan Regional Government on its agenda, and the smuggling of oil from Iraq’s northern provinces to Turkey will continue. He emphasized that the Turkish government has also pledged to secretly support the Barzani administration against pressures arising from the signing of security agreements.
