Dissemination of an AI-Generated Fake Video Targeting the President of Turkey
In recent days, an artificial intelligence-generated video has been circulating on social media. In this fake content, untrue statements regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran and its negotiations with the United States of America are attributed to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Turkey.
The original clip is from Mr. Erdoğan’s speech at the “Justice and Development Party Turkic World Vision Meeting” held on 24 Aban 1404 (December 15, 2025) in Ankara, in which he emphasized the historical and cultural ties among Turkic-speaking countries. In the manipulated version, using Persian and Turkish subtitles, the content of the speech has been distorted, and fabricated information about Turkey’s mediation has been added to it.
This action was carried out within the framework of an organized disinformation operation and has been distributed under provocative titles such as “Erdoğan threatened Iran with an attack” on some networks affiliated with opponents of the Islamic Republic of Iran regime. The objectives behind designing this fake content are assessed to be distorting Iran’s active regional diplomacy, damaging the strategic Tehran-Ankara relations, and waging psychological warfare.
It is worth noting that Turkey, within the framework of its regional diplomacy, has recently been pursuing efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States. In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, during his visit to Istanbul last week, met and held talks with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan and the President of Turkey.
