Devlet Bahceli Accuses Europe of Double Standards in Human Rights
Devlet Bahceli, leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) of Turkey, at the parliamentary group meeting of the party in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), while assessing domestic and foreign developments, reacted to student protests in France and the double standard of Europe toward democracy and human rights, and addressing the youth of Turkey said: Do not pin your hopes on France! Do not be deceived by Western imperialism! Support Turkey; Turkey belongs to you!
Bahceli, referring to student protests in France, said: These events show that Europe faces serious problems in terms of social peace and stability. He added: Students who have taken to the streets to improve the physical conditions of schools, address teacher shortages and ensure equality of educational opportunities are in fact expressing their anxiety about the future.
The MHP leader, criticizing French police treatment of protesters and the detention of thousands, accused Europe of hypocrisy and said: Those who lecture other countries about democracy and human rights ignore the same principles when it comes to their own citizens. He emphasized: If such events had occurred in Turkey, European leaders would protest about human rights; but they have remained silent in the face of violence in France.
In another part of his speech, he also addressed regional issues. Bahceli said: We cannot remain silent in the face of attacks on the Kaaba and the Mosque of the Prophet. Pointing to the need to support Saudi Arabia within the framework of the Mecca Coalition, he called for decisive action against Houthi attacks on Saudi territory and said: Attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are crimes under international law and humanitarian law.
Bahceli also warned about Greece Israel relations and the electricity interconnection project between Greece, Southern Cyprus and Israel, saying: Athens must know that by relying on the support of third countries it cannot overcome the objections of Ankara. Unless Greece recognizes the rights of Turkey and the sovereignty of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, no alliance or weapon will provide it with real security.
The MHP leader continued by emphasizing the fight against corruption, saying: No corruption or violation should be sheltered by the law. State institutions must announce the facts to the people and enlighten public opinion with correct information. He also stressed the need to strengthen morality, justice and conscience in politics and public institutions.
