Today, the world is more than ever entangled with environmental problems and issues, and ignoring these problems endangers the entire life of humanity. Experiences in different countries of the world have shown how much attention has been paid to the role of the human factor in achieving the goals of sustainable development. In this regard, women possess a highly influential role that can affect the development process of countries. The present research seeks to answer the question of what role women play in civil participation and environmental policymaking in Iran and Turkey. The hypothesis of this study is that women are very active in the field of civil participation but have been excluded from decision-making arenas. In this research, Anthony Giddens’ Structuration Theory has been used as the research method. According to this approach, agents (women) can change the structure (the environmental structures of Iran and Turkey). Based on the findings of this study, women in both countries under investigation are very active in civil participation activities in environmental fields, but they occupy a low position in organizational and policymaking domains.
