Hezbollah in a letter to the Pope: Israeli attacks threaten Lebanon’s stability
The Hezbollah movement, in a letter addressed to Pope Leo XIV, Head of the Vatican State, warned that Israel’s ongoing attacks severely threaten Lebanon’s security and stability. The letter was released in conjunction with the Pope’s scheduled visit to Lebanon on November 30.
In the letter, Lebanon is described as a bridge between diverse religions and cultures, and the Pope’s visit to the country is welcomed. The letter also expresses appreciation for the Pope’s role in defending human rights, stressing that the root of many of today’s global conflicts lies in the refusal of certain parties to recognize the rights of others.
Hezbollah further characterized Israel’s assaults on the people of Gaza as “a clear genocide,” writing: “The catastrophe that has unfolded in Gaza over the past two years is the result of the Zionist occupiers’ usurpation of the land, homeland, and right to self-determination of the Palestinian people.”
