Justice and Development Party Spokesperson: Intervention in Iran Would Bring Disaster
Ömer Çelik, Spokesperson and Deputy Chairman of Turkey’s Justice and Development Party (AK Party), explained Turkey’s positions regarding regional developments at a press conference held at the party headquarters.
Referring to recent regional tensions, Çelik warned about the consequences of any foreign intervention in Iran, stating: “Any foreign intervention in Iran will bring about much worse consequences and greater disasters. The solution to problems is negotiation, and Turkey declares its readiness to play a credible and peace-building mediating role.”
He went on to condemn Israel’s violation of the ceasefire in Gaza, adding: “The only side currently violating this ceasefire is Israel. The international community must show more decisive initiative to protect this ceasefire and ensure the uninterrupted entry of humanitarian aid.”
The Justice and Development Party Spokesperson outlined the principles of Turkey’s policy toward Syria: “Our President’s emphasis on a single Syria and the administration of this country by all Syrians today forms the backbone of the global consensus. Our actions in the fight against terrorism in northern Syria are within the framework of defending this country’s unity and territorial integrity.” He added that Ankara’s humanitarian aid to the Syrian people would continue through official channels.
In another part of his remarks, Çelik, recalling the February 2023 earthquake, praised the national solidarity and reconstruction process.
He also criticized the hypocrisy and double standards of the West, condemning the difference in the international community’s approach to the war in Ukraine and the crisis in Gaza.
