MHP Leader Bahçeli Outlines Party’s Positions in Parliamentary Speech
The Bahçeli government responded to the recent request by CHP (Republican People’s Party) leader Özgür Özel for the live broadcast of court hearings related to Istanbul Municipality corruption cases on the state-run TRT channel. Bahçeli stated that his party supports evaluating this request within the legal framework and believes the public has the right to follow judicial proceedings directly.
Bahçeli also responded to Özel’s controversial statement, “I will decide the day to call people to the streets myself,” describing it as “reckless and lacking political courtesy.” He warned that any actions outside democratic mechanisms would be met with resistance from the Turkish government and people.
Referring to recent judicial investigations into CHP-affiliated municipalities in cities like Adana and Adıyaman, Bahçeli emphasized that evidence of financial corruption in these municipalities requires urgent judicial review. He called for the swift preparation of indictments and avoidance of unnecessary delays in trials, warning that postponements could escalate political tensions.

Bahçeli declared his party’s full support for the government’s counterterrorism policies, stating, “In the process of achieving a terror-free Turkey, we will always stand behind our President and will not leave him alone.” He described the recent Pençe-Kılıç operation in northern Iraq as a decisive step and prayed for mercy for the 12 soldiers who died in the operation due to methane gas poisoning.
In another part of his speech, Bahçeli addressed the recent forest fires in İzmir and Antalya, accusing certain groups of distorting news about these natural disasters to undermine the country’s peace. The MHP leader called for a thorough technical investigation into the causes of the fires and demanded punishment for negligent officials in power line management companies.
