The arrest of 11 students in Ankara protests
Police in Ankara confronted students who were protesting the lack of preventive measures against earthquakes and arrested 11 of them. This protest was held following a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Istanbul and related demonstrations. Previously in Istanbul, citizens who had set up tents in Gezi Park faced police intervention.
During the student gathering in Ankara, they attempted to march towards the Miners’ Memorial. This action was met with a strong reaction from the police, resulting in the arrest of 11 students.
The Association of Contemporary Lawyers announced in a statement that the detained students will be released after interrogation procedures. This protest highlights public dissatisfaction with inadequate measures against earthquakes and related concerns.
