Turkey to Export 48 KAAN Fighter Jets to Indonesia
Under an agreement between Turkey and Indonesia, Turkey will produce and deliver 48 advanced KAAN fighter jets to Indonesia. The deal was signed at the Jakarta Defense Expo with the participation of high-ranking officials from both countries.
According to the agreement, the delivery of the aircraft will take place over a 10-year period. The KAAN fighter, Turkey’s first fifth-generation aircraft, is equipped with advanced stealth radar systems and artificial intelligence capabilities. Indonesia’s industrial capabilities will also be utilized in the production of these jets.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan described the agreement as a significant step in defense cooperation between the two countries. Meanwhile, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of technology transfer and strengthening his country’s defense industry.
The KAAN project has been under development by TUSAŞ since 2016 and completed its maiden test flight in February 2024. This fighter jet is part of Turkey’s long-term plan to achieve self-sufficiency in defense industries.
Turkish officials stated that this contract marks the country’s largest defense industry export to date. Once development is fully completed, the KAAN is expected to be exported to other countries as well.
