Turkey’s $65 Million Investment in Afghanistan’s Wind Power Plant Project
Turkish construction company “77” will invest $65 million in the first phase of a wind power plant construction project in Herat, Afghanistan. This phase involves building a plant with a generation capacity of 43.2 megawatts, which is part of a larger project with a total capacity of 200 megawatts.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was attended by the deputy prime minister of the Taliban’s interim government, several cabinet members, Turkey’s consul general in Herat, the chairman of the board of 77 Construction Company, and a number of other guests.
Emre Ünal, the commercial counselor of the Turkish Embassy in Kabul, stated that Turkish companies have so far invested around $7 billion in Afghanistan and that this project will introduce wind turbine technology to Afghanistan for the first time through a Turkish firm.
Ünal added that Turkey’s positive image in Afghanistan, the high trust in Turkish goods and engineering, as well as the country’s economic potential—including its young workforce and low business setup costs—have created favorable conditions for increasing bilateral investments.
