Zelenskyy Suggested Turkey and Europe as Hosts for Meeting with Putin
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, announced that any potential meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, would only take place if security guarantees were received. He suggested Switzerland, Austria, and Turkey as potential options to host this summit.
These remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump met with Putin in Alaska. Following that meeting, Zelenskyy, along with a number of European leaders, was a guest of Trump at the White House.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, who was present at the White House meeting, said that 30 countries are developing a framework to provide security guarantees to Ukraine and that the U.S. is also ready to join this initiative. In an interview with Fox News, he described the negotiations between Trump, Zelenskyy, and the European leaders as “very successful” and added that these efforts are focused on guarantees that could be implemented after a ceasefire or even a full peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine is established.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance also emphasized in a separate interview with Fox News that Ukraine is seeking long-term guarantees to preserve its territorial integrity and prevent any further aggression from Russia. He added that the primary responsibility for ensuring Ukraine’s security should fall on European countries.
