Afghanistan: 12 Killed in Pakistan Attacks
The spokesperson of Afghanistan’s Interim Government announced that at least 12 Afghan civilians were killed in attacks carried out early this morning by Pakistani forces on Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province.
According to TOLOnews, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson of the Interim Government of Afghanistan, wrote on the social media platform X that Pakistani forces used both light and heavy weapons in the assaults. He added that more than 100 people were also wounded in the incident.
Mujahid stated that Afghan forces launched retaliatory operations following the attacks and also shared images of the clashes.
News sources reported that Afghan and Pakistani border forces once again engaged in fighting near the frontier known as the Durand Line. According to TOLOnews, similar clashes had erupted last week and have now intensified.
Mostaghfar Gurbaz, spokesperson of Khost province, said that Afghan border forces targeted Pakistani army positions near the Durand Line. He claimed that Pakistan had intended to launch an attack but “failed,” and that the clashes are still ongoing.
In contrast, Pakistan-based Geo News, citing security sources, reported that Afghan forces “without reason” attacked Pakistani army positions in the border region of Kurram. These sources said the Pakistani army responded to the assault “immediately and decisively.”
According to Pakistani sources, several Afghan bases were severely damaged in the clashes and one tank was destroyed. The Pakistani army also announced that it is on “full alert” and prepared to defend the country against any possible attacks.
