Afghanistan: Pakistan’s Irrational Demands Halted Negotiations
Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister announced that recent talks between Kabul and Islamabad have reached a deadlock due to “unrealistic and irrational” demands put forward by the Pakistani delegation.
Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban government in Afghanistan, emphasized that the main reason for the failure of the negotiations was demands that were “neither feasible nor logical.”
According to Tolo News television, Muttaqi stated at a ceremony in Istanbul that Pakistani representatives raised demands during the meetings that were impossible to fulfill. He noted that one of these demands was for Afghanistan to guarantee that no security incidents would ever occur in Pakistan.
He added: “Afghanistan seeks friendly relations with Pakistan based on mutual respect, but at the same time we will defend our territorial integrity.”
Muttaqi also claimed that Pakistan has blocked trade routes between the two countries as a means of exerting pressure on Afghanistan.
