Google Cloud and Turkcell’s Three Billion Dollar Investment in Turkey
The Vice President of Turkey announced that Google Cloud and Turkcell will invest a total of three billion dollars in the country as part of a joint project.
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, speaking at the “Google Cloud Day Türkiye” event held in Istanbul, stated that Turkcell will invest one billion dollars and Google Cloud will invest two billion dollars, emphasizing that this significant figure could also stimulate further investments.
Yılmaz added that Google Cloud, in cooperation with Turkcell, will bring the “Egemen Bulut” (Sovereign Cloud) infrastructure to Turkey, ensuring the highest level of data security and full compliance with domestic regulations.
He explained that with the implementation of this infrastructure in Turkey, institutions will be able to encrypt their data with their own dedicated keys and carry out their operations fully in line with legal requirements.
Yılmaz also highlighted the rapid developments in artificial intelligence, particularly generative AI, large language models, and regulatory frameworks, stressing that as the implementation period of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy comes to an end, Turkey is working on a new action plan in this field.
