Imamoglu’s trial begins: With the end of the 72-hour legal deadline for Ekrem İmamoğlu’s interrogation, his trial will begin this evening at the Çaylayan Court in the Şişli district of Istanbul.
A jury of thirty people will issue a preliminary verdict in the case based on the evidence from the prosecutor and Imamoglu’s defense.
Although the prosecutor has requested 4 to 7 years in prison for him, Imamoglu may receive house arrest or judicial supervision with a ban on leaving the country based on the initial verdict of acquittal.
Any demonstrations, gatherings and protests are prohibited in Istanbul.
The Turkish opposition has announced that it will hold a nationwide demonstration at the courthouse in support of the Istanbul mayor.
