Iran and Europe Hold Nuclear Deal Talks in Istanbul
Representatives from Iran and three European countries (Germany, France, and the UK) met in Istanbul to discuss recent developments regarding the nuclear agreement and sanctions removal. The meeting, held at the Iranian Consulate, was attended by Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Kazem Gharibabadi representing Iran, along with deputy foreign ministers from the E3 countries.
Gharibabadi stated in a release: “We hosted European officials and exchanged views on nuclear negotiations and sanctions lifting. Both sides are determined to continue the diplomatic path.”
Simultaneously, the Iranian delegation also met with Olaf Skoog, Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs of the European Union. This meeting followed the cancellation of a previously planned session in Rome due to delays in Iran-US negotiations.

A key discussion point was Iran’s concerns about Europe potentially activating the “snapback mechanism,” which could reinstate previous UN sanctions. The deadline for action on this mechanism is set for October 18.
Previously, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had warned in an article that using this mechanism would have serious consequences for Europe and regional stability.
These talks were held as part of recent efforts to revive the nuclear deal.
