New round of indirect Iran US talks begins in Geneva
Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the news and said that Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, has left for Geneva to participate in this round of talks.
According to Baghaei, this round of talks is being held indirectly and with the mediation of the Omani side. He added: “The purpose of this trip is to hold the second round of nuclear talks, and in addition to the negotiations, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will also have meetings with some officials.”
The spokesman for the diplomatic apparatus elaborated on Araghchi’s plans in Geneva, stating: “A meeting with the Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs is scheduled for this afternoon. He also met and held talks with Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This meeting began this morning following Grossi’s arrival in Geneva from Vienna and is currently underway.”
Regarding the composition of the Iranian delegation sent to these talks, Baghaei stated: “Considering the technical, economic, political, and legal dimensions of the negotiations, a full expert team, including specialists in the nuclear field, is present in this round. This comprehensive composition demonstrates the seriousness and responsible approach of the Islamic Republic of Iran in pursuing the negotiation process.”
Referring to the main themes of the first round of these talks, which were held in Muscat, he noted: “In the first session, general topics and an assessment of the other party’s seriousness were on the agenda.”
In conclusion, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the issue of lifting sanctions is an inseparable principle for Iran and said: “The economic team present in the Iranian delegation will specifically pursue this matter.”
