Opening of the Meeting of Deputy Ministers of ECO Member States in Tehran
The meeting of deputy ministers of the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), chaired by Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, First Deputy of Iran’s Minister of Interior, has commenced in Tehran.
In this meeting, deputy ministers are discussing areas of joint cooperation in the fields of security, economy, and border management. Effective border control, the development of cross‑border trade, combating smuggling, and strengthening law‑enforcement cooperation are among the main topics on the agenda.
The exchange of experiences in combating narcotics, enhancing cyber security, and utilizing new technologies — including artificial intelligence — to strengthen security cooperation is also under consideration.
This expert‑level meeting serves as a prelude to the main ministerial summit of ECO member states, which will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) in Tehran with the participation of the ministers and senior officials of Iran, Türkiye, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, along with the ECO Secretary‑General, the Minister of Interior of Oman, and the Deputy Minister of Interior of Iraq as guests.
The outcomes and agreements of today’s meeting will be reviewed and finalized at the ministerial session. Holding this summit after a 15‑year hiatus may mark a new beginning for expanding deeper cooperation among the member states in various fields.
The agreements reached at the deputies’ meeting are expected to be reflected in the “Tehran Declaration.” The Fourth Meeting of Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member states will be held tomorrow at the Summit Conference Hall in Tehran.
