Recognition of Palestine by the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada
The three countries of the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, in a coordinated move, officially recognized the State of Palestine.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, in a message on the social media platform X, stated: “Therefore, Australia recognizes the legitimate and longstanding aspirations of the Palestinian people.” He also reiterated his country’s support for the two‑state solution.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, in a statement, recalled that since 1947 all Canadian governments have supported the two‑state solution, but hopes for its realization have gradually faded over time. He added: “The current Israeli government consistently seeks to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state. Under these circumstances, Canada recognizes the State of Palestine and offers a partnership to build a peaceful future for both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples.”
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also issued an official statement declaring that London recognizes the State of Palestine, describing this step as a move to revive hopes for peace and to achieve the two‑state solution.
