Reopening of the Torkham Border Crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan
The Torkham border crossing, which had been closed since October 11 due to border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, was reopened today to allow the return of Afghan refugees and the resumption of trade.
Pakistani officials, after inspecting the crossing, announced that in addition to facilitating the return of refugees, commercial activities have also resumed.
Qureshi Badlon, head of the Information and Culture Department of Nangarhar Province, confirmed the reopening and stated that Afghan citizens returning to the country were warmly welcomed.
Following the clashes on October 11, Pakistan had closed all border crossings with Afghanistan and halted the passage of Afghan refugees. This decision left thousands of refugees and hundreds of vehicles stranded on the route from Nowshera in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province to Torkham, many of them waiting for days without adequate access to food and water.
