Turkey Welcomes Afghanistan–Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement
Under the instruction of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) played an active role in establishing a ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan. According to Turkish security sources, negotiations were held in Doha with the support of Turkey and Qatar, attended by senior officials from Afghanistan and Pakistan, including the heads of intelligence agencies and the defense ministers of both countries.
The main agenda of the talks was defined as “extending the existing ceasefire and resolving recent border clashes.” The negotiations, which continued late into the night, were reported to the leaders of the countries, including President Erdoğan, in real time. After 14 hours of talks, it was decided that the first meeting of the technical committee to review the details of the ceasefire would be held in Istanbul. This committee will focus on long-term measures concerning terrorism, migration, and border security.
Pakistan and Afghanistan expressed gratitude to Turkey and Qatar for their role in the process. Pakistan’s Minister of Defense, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, wrote on the social media platform “X”: “Attacks from Afghan soil into Pakistan will come to an end; a ceasefire agreement between the two countries has been signed. Delegations will meet in Istanbul on October 25 to discuss the issues in detail. We thank Turkey and Qatar for their active role in establishing the ceasefire.”
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, also welcomed the final agreement reached in Doha in a post on “X,” calling it “the first step in the right direction.” He further praised the constructive role of Turkey and Qatar.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for Afghanistan’s interim government, stated: “The two countries mutually agreed not to take any hostile actions against each other; Afghanistan will not support groups that attack Pakistan.” He also thanked Turkey and Qatar for their mediation, adding: “With the efforts of the mediating countries, a mechanism will be established to review mutual demands and ensure the effective implementation of this agreement.”

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement welcoming the ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The statement read: “We welcome the decision to establish a ceasefire and create mechanisms to strengthen peace and stability between Afghanistan and Pakistan during the negotiations held in Doha with the mediation of Turkey and Qatar.” The ministry further praised Qatar’s efforts as the host of the talks and emphasized that Ankara will continue to support efforts to establish lasting peace and stability between the two brotherly countries and in the region.
