İMAMOĞLU’S SILİVRİ PRISON INTERVIEW: EVERYONE’S PARTICIPATION IS ESSENTIAL FOR A TERROR-FREE TURKEY
Ekrem İmamoğlu, Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor and Republican People’s Party (CHP) presidential candidate, gave an interview from Silivri Prison with imprisoned journalist Fatih Altaylı. The meeting was facilitated through both parties’ lawyers.
Regarding the “Terror-Free Turkey” project, İmamoğlu stated:
“This process is not exclusive to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP); all segments of society must participate.”
He emphasized that the ultimate goal must be establishing democracy, justice, and lasting peace.
Addressing CHP’s proposal to form a special parliamentary commission, the Istanbul Mayor added:
“This commission should be the genuine representative of the people’s will.”
When questioned about the government’s sincerity, İmamoğlu responded:
“As opposition, we have always stated our positions unconditionally, without depending on the government’s goodwill.”
Addressing public concerns, he assured citizens:
“Rest assured that the Republican People’s Party (CHP) will continue to safeguard democracy and justice.”
Citing his Istanbul governance experience, İmamoğlu stressed the necessity of progressing toward an inclusive society.
He concluded:
“Building a democratic and just Turkey will only be possible through the active and collective participation of all 86 million citizens.”
