Masoud Pezeshkian’s Speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in his first appearance at the United Nations General Assembly, delivered a comprehensive speech addressing a wide range of issues, including the reinstatement of UN Security Council resolutions against Iran, the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iranian territory, the Gaza crisis, regional and global developments, and Iran’s cultural position in the international arena.
Objection to the Reinstatement of Resolutions and the Trigger Mechanism
Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted the issue of the “trigger mechanism” in a significant part of his remarks, stating: “Three European countries, under the order of the United States, attempted through pressure and blatant abuse to reinstate the annulled Security Council resolutions against Iran.” He described this move as illegal, illegitimate, and contrary to good faith, emphasizing that such efforts have been opposed by many Security Council members and the international community.

Iran and Nuclear Weapons
The Iranian President reiterated: “Iran has never sought and will never seek to build nuclear weapons. This is not merely a political stance, but a matter of belief and a fatwa by the Supreme Leader.” He added that Iran has always supported the establishment of a region free of weapons of mass destruction, while the countries possessing the largest nuclear arsenals continue to expand their destructive power in violation of the NPT.
Condemnation of U.S. and Israeli Attacks
Referring to recent attacks by the United States and Israel on Iranian soil, Masoud Pezeshkian said: “These aggressions occurred precisely at a time when Iran was on the path of diplomatic negotiations. Such actions are a grave betrayal of diplomacy and global efforts for peace.” Displaying images of victims of the recent conflict, he stressed that these attacks violated fundamental principles of international law and added: “Would you accept attacks on your facilities and the killing of your scientists?”
The Gaza Crisis and Condemnation of Israel
Addressing developments in Palestine, the Iranian President stated: “Today, after nearly two years of genocide, collective starvation, and the continuation of apartheid in the occupied territories, the aggression of the Zionist regime has become a threat to many countries in the region.” He described the “Greater Israel” plan as absurd and dangerous, stressing that this regime cannot guarantee the security of any country.
Masoud Pezeshkian also condemned Israel’s aggression against Qatar, saying: “True security is not achieved through force, but through confidence-building and mutual respect.”

Iran’s Positions on Regional and Global Developments
. Azerbaijan and Armenia: Iran supports the peace process between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia and hopes this agreement will be sustainable.
. Ukraine War: Iran called for a fair and lasting end to the war between Ukraine and Russia, stressing that such an agreement must heal the human wounds of the crisis.
. Saudi Arabia–Pakistan Defense Pact: Masoud Pezeshkian welcomed the defense pact between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, describing it as a positive step toward establishing an inclusive security system in the region.
Iranian Culture as a Capital of Peace
In the final part of his speech, Masoud Pezeshkian said: “We Iranians have extended our influence not through nuclear weapons or historical empires, but through a culture of human compassion and the legacy of our great figures such as Hafez, Saadi, and Rumi.” Quoting Saadi’s famous verse ‘Human beings are members of a whole’, he emphasized that Iran will remain a reliable and enduring partner for all peace-seeking nations.
Conclusion and Final Message
The Iranian President concluded his remarks by stating: “We, the steadfast people of Iran, by standing against injustices and double standards, have turned this historic achievement into a platform for a hopeful leap toward the future. Let us turn threats into opportunities together.”
